It’ll be a long one – 4 days for many.
Yep, the country’s 241-years-old this Tuesday.
Canada will also be celebrating its birthday this weekend, as the ol’ gal is turning 150 on Saturday.
So get out there and have a beer or a joint or some unhealthy food and be happy you live in America.
I lived in China for 5 years so I appreciate this a bit more, myself.
I also appreciate that we only have fireworks for one night. In the Middle Kingdom they do them for 30 days over the Chinese New Year holiday that comes in January/February.
Trust me, it sucks.
If you have to work early, it really sucks!
So be thankful for what we have here. Quiet environs and low commute times come quickly to mind as I think of the Far East.
Anyways, let’s get into it today.
Trump’s Tirades
The media lost.
They can’t seem to get over this.
And I understand why – every single major media outlet in this country endorsed Hillary over Trump.
They wanted him to lose, and badly. And they failed.
Embittered, the cable networks like CNN, MSNBC, CBS and quite a few more continually bash the president.
Then when he bashes back they get all defensive, like, “Why on earth are you attacking us!?!”
Melania Trump has said that if you attack her husband, he’ll attack back 10 times harder.
And he does.
And the networks don’t know what to do about this.
It’s like when I call Missoula’s mayor fat, drunk and stupid.
Who cares? A bunch of liberals that contribute to Missoula’s problems by continually electing this asshole?
Please.
And who is it that cares about what Trump is saying…a bunch of liberals that didn’t vote for him anyways?
So what?
It’s why earlier this week I didn’t give a shit about the Missoula Democrats and their silly questionnaire.
They’re not going to support me; they’re going to support my opponent and current incumbent, Jon Wilkins.
- I’d be stupid to think otherwise.
- I’d be stupid to spend my time coddling Missoula Dems.
- I’d be stupid to try to make the group happy that’s largely responsible for Missoula’s current financial mess.
Trump is the same way.
He doesn’t give a shit about the corporate media or the people that watch it.
The strategy served him well, allowing him to get elected president…a very tough task.
Remember, none of the network talking heads even try to run for office.
Mika running for office? Yeah, I’m sure she’d love to give up that $2 million annual salary of hers.
The whole crux of this Twitter tirade/argument was based on accurate reporting telling us that Mika was fucking someone other than her husband of 23 years.
But that's not an issue for the liberal media.
For those types, talking about the country’s ‘problems’ is a lot easier – and more lucrative – than trying to do anything about them.
Our networks are the same way.
- Comcast had $19.7 billion in revenue in 2015
- CBS had $9.5 billion in revenue in 2015
- Time Warner had $4.5 billion in revenue in 2015
Those companies own NBC, CBS, and CNN…three of our major sources of news in this country.
They love the controversy that surrounds Trump and which they so often help create.
It’s good for their bottom line.
For those companies, the country doesn’t matter; just money.
Problems at CNN
He was fired.
Three days ago CNN got caught running a fake story. They fired three reporters over this fiasco:
- Thomas Frank: A 30-year reporter for USA today and Newsday and CNN
- Eric Lichtblau: A Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for the New York Times and CNN
- Lex Haris: A former executive editor for CNNMoney since 2001
All three were shit-canned.
And we wonder why Trump continually bashes the media.
I think it’s obvious – they’re out to get him in whatever way they can, the truth be damned.
And Americans are sick of it.
Personally, I wish we could talk about other things besides stupid reporters all the time.
How about Social Security and the fact that we didn’t have a cost of living increase last year?
Who’s that help?
Those highly-paid reporters don’t give a flying fuck about that, however.
They have the same opinion about you and your family.
You’re just a country bumpkin, and my how those East and West Coast elites in the media look down on you.
I’m not surprised they have that attitude – it’s the same attitude the big wigs in the Democratic and Republican Parties have about you too.
Trump was the only one last year that acted like he gave a damn about the common people.
And he won.
My how networks like CNN hate this, hate his cozying-up to the very people they purport to speak to, but behind closed doors, can’t stop ridiculing enough.
The media doesn’t care about you. Stop caring about it.
My Campaign Finances
Well…how about my campaign?
As you know, I’m running for Missoula City Council, Ward 4, as are three other men.
We won’t know what those others are raising and spending until August 18, when the first campaign finance reports are due.
I don’t need to wait that long.
So far since I started my campaign in March I’ve raised $370 and spent $123.07.
This is what the spending looks like:
- 1,000 Campaign Cards: $84.95
- Facebook Advertising: $33.38
- Act Blue Fees: $4.74
I have $246.88 left in my campaign war chest.
I’m running my campaign like I’d run my personal finances or yours – with thought, care, and plenty of research.
I just don’t have money to waste, so I’m not wasting it.
All I really still need to get are my campaign yard signs and that’s it.
I’ve considered getting a custom T-shirt made, one with my name taking up the whole front and “City Council” taking up the whole back.
That’s good advertising as you’re walking around. I dunno…maybe I still will. It’d certainly be fun to wear to the Dem forum on July 11!
Mostly, it’s yard signs and walking cards.
Drivers seeing my name and issues each day, voters hearing them at their doors.
Maybe I’ll win, maybe I won’t. I’m happy to give it a try.
The Quest for Single Payer
MT small-business lobby supports repeal of ‘Obamacare’ the article is called.
In it we learn that before Obamacare went into effect, over 50% of Montana small businesses offered healthcare.
Now that’s down to less than 30%.
This is making it harder for small businesses to keep workers.
“What happens is, we bring them in, we train them for a year or so, and then they immediately go off to larger companies or state government or whatever is offering health insurance.”
Why not just take $20 out of may paycheck every two weeks and give me a single payer system?
We often hear that 94 million Americans are not working, so that means that 227 million are.
If we take $20 every two weeks from those people we’ll have $4.5 billion.
That’s $9 billion a month, or $108 billion a year.
That’s a lot of money, yet in America we spent $1.2 trillion on healthcare in 2013.
That breaks down to $949 billion in premiums and $325 billion in out-of-pocket expenses.
So where’s the other $1 trillion coming from to pay for single payer?
Even with Bernie Sanders’ plan we knew that his 6.7% payroll tax and 2.2% income tax would still have left us $600 billion short.
Conveniently, however, we know that the Pentagon had a budget of $598 billion in 2015, and I’m sure that’s only gone up since then.
Just transfer that money over.
Most Americans would rather spend money helping themselves as opposed to killing others.
Any president that suggest that will be swiftly killed, however, as the military industrial complex and their arms dealing buddies simply won’t allow their profits to slip away.
They’re in the business of death, and it’ll be death for the one that tries to stop that.
This is why I feel it’s so critical for a real leader to mobilize his home state’s National Guard upon assuming power, bring them to the District of Criminals, clean out the CIA, NSA, FBI, Pentagon, and truly start to bring this country back to the people.
I wouldn’t trust the military to do that job – like most organizations, their topmost levels are full of corrupt, career-lackeys that’ll do anything to ensure they get that pension, keep that healthcare.
Ah, right back to our health.
That’s what it comes down to. Without that you’ve really got nothing.
Americans currently have nothing.
Our corrupt government and the corporations that fund it like it this way.
So keep watching their propaganda on your boob tube. I’m sure that’ll help you and your family immensely.
