Regular people have sex nine times a month.
That comes out to twice a week; three in one week.
Too much…not enough? It’s an age-old problem.
We get that ‘9 times a month’ number from a March survey of 2,000 people.
I wish I was having sex nine times a month, but I’m not. I don’t think many couples are…either married or single.
People are often too busy to have sex, or tired from being too busy earlier in the day.
The same survey tells us that 75% of couples say their busy schedules prevent them from having sex regularly, with 60% of those wishing they had sex more often.
Like many things in America, the past was better.
According to the Archives of Sexual Behavior – a report collected most years since 1972 – Americans had sex up to 62 times a year in the early-1990s, but by 2014 they were doing it just 53 times a year.
Married people are far worse in this regard: in 1990 they had sex 73 times a year, but by 2014 they were getting down just 55 times annually.
We often think that singles are having more sex than married folks, and we’re right. Singles are having sex 59 times a year compared to the 55 times married couples do it.
One consolation is that a 2017 survey once again has most people having sex 60 times a year, which breaks down to a little more than once a week.
A 2017 YouGov survey told us that just 4% of Americans are having sex every day.
Something you’d like to try? 18% of men would like to, and 9% of women.
Still, thinking ain’t doin’. That same survey told us that just 14% of people are having sex “a few times a week,” while another 14% are having sex “a few times each month.”
USA Today came out with a poll in February about singles and sex. The sample size was 5,000 people.
For 83% of people, good sex comes about because of a “caring and enthusiastic partner.” We know that 70% of women won’t put up with “bad sex.”
India, Mexico, and Brazil are the most sexually-satisfied countries in the world.
Like wine, sex just seems to get better with age. The 5,000 people in the survey told us that men like sex the most at the age of 64, while women like it best at age 66.
“Feeling comfortable with your body is a part of it,” one sex therapist said, “but older individuals also are more likely to speak up about what they like and dislike.”
And we don’t always get what we like, especially women. 46% of women go down on a man, but just 40% of men return the favor.
The same survey also told us that 39% of men and 56% of women “would consider it cheating for their partner to have sex with a robot.”
“Digisexual” is the name we now use for people who prefer having sex with robots as opposed to people.
In 2017, a poll of 1,150 people had half saying that sex with robots would be common by the year 2067. They’re not quite ready for it yet, however – just 9% of women would consider it today, though 24% of men would.
Yes – sex is often a charged subject.
When it comes to solo pursuits, a poll of over 13,000 people around the world tells us that Americans think 83% of men masturbate and that 66% of women do.
In fact, 92% of men do it and 76% of women do.
British men pleasure themselves the most, with 96%, followed by Germany at 93%.
Um…let’s take a rest, eh?
We get a lot of info from a 2017 National Survey of Family Growth report issued by the US government.
It tells us that 50% of Americans have sex by the age of 17.
82% of men and 84% of women aged 20 to 24 are having sex.
93% of Americans have had sex in the past year. 3% of Americans have never had sex.
The average number of sexual partners, according to those in their forties, is about 3 for women and about 6 for men.
One of the big reasons I have sex on the brain today is because of what’s been in the news.
How about that New York AG? I guess one of his old girlfriends said he could rarely have sex without beating her up a bit first.
Speaking of getting rough, we have to go all the way back to a 1990 Kinsey Institute report to find out that just 5% to 10% of people engage in sadomasochism – or BDSM – on “an occasional basis.”
11% of men and 17% of women have tried bondage. In America we like this more – 36% of Americans “use masks, blindfolds, and bondage tools,” compared to 20% of the world.
Let’s unchain ourselves from this thinking and move on…
Our final report, a 2004 ABC News survey of 1,500 people, tells us that 57% of Americans have had sex outdoors.
51% of Americans discuss their fantasies, while 29% of people have sex on a first date. The report tells us that 30% of couples have watched sexual videos together, and that 15% of men have paid for sex.
While 30% of people fantasize about cheating on their partner, only 16% ever actually go through with it.
55% of Americans describe their sexual activity as “traditional,” though 30% would like to be “more adventurous.”
70% of men think about sex every day, while just 34% of women do.
83% of men enjoy sex “a great deal,” while just 59% of women feel the same.
74% of men always have an orgasm, while just 30% of women do. 45% of women “usually” have an orgasm.
80% of Americans feel that foreplay and sex should last 45 minutes.
And that’s it.
Maybe this will give you some stuff to think on. Perhaps it’ll help you improve your sex life.
I think most people would like to have more sex, but they just can’t find the time and refuse to make it.
Relationships suffer because of this, and that bleeds into all areas of our lives.
People get frustrated, they lash out, and stop caring. Society suffers because of this, with people engaging in too much eating and drinking and other risky behaviors.
I believe many do this because they just want to get laid, but can’t.
So here’s hoping you get up to that magical ‘9 times a month’ number.
That’s twice a week, with one lucky week having three.
Yee-haw!
