“If this guy avoids prison, I think it's clear we have double standards for the politically-connected class and the rest of us. “
That’s what I told you 10 days ago.
Lo and behold...that’s exactly what happened.
Here’s the sentence that Melissa Romano’s husband got yesterday:
“A former Helena elementary school teacher has been given a three-year deferred sentence for felony drug possession, stemming from an August traffic stop where authorities found cocaine, LSD, methamphetamine and psilocybin mushrooms in his vehicle.
…
As part of a plea agreement, Lehman pleaded guilty to possession of the psilocybin mushrooms. He also must continue drug treatment activities, make a $500 contribution to the Missouri River Drug Task Force, complete 40 hours of community service, pay court fees and costs and obtain a chemical-dependency evaluation.”
This makes me sick.
We have people in this country and in this state that are getting years in prison for marijuana possession.
Yeah, years in prison for a drug that’s legal in 11 states.
And yet here in Montana a teacher that had pot, shrooms, coke, acid, and meth gets a slap on the wrist and 40 hours of community service.
Makes me sick.
And as I told you 10 days ago, this politically connected man wouldn’t be held to the same standard as the rest of us.
Here’s another angle to the story:
“As part of the plea agreement, Lehman pleaded guilty to possession of only psilocybin mushrooms. The deputy county attorney prosecuting the case, Dan Baris, said he gave Lehman the option of choosing which drug he would be prosecuted for possessing, an opportunity he said anyone in Lehman's situation is afforded.”
Must be nice to have a prosecutor that lets you decide what you’ll be charged for.
I’m not sure I’ve ever read a Montana news story where the accused was given that option.
Wow.
Double standard indeed.
We must never allow this prosecuting attorney, Dan Baris, to hold political office, and we have to do our best to ensure he leaves our state. He makes me sick as well.
I never wanted to vote for Elsie Arntzen, but this bullshit plea deal gives me no choice - Melissa Romano must never hold elected office in this state.
Her family makes me sick.
The double standard that we see with these politically connected Democrats is abhorrent.
We have hardworking Montana families that see their kids go to prison for a lot less than Romano’s husband had on him.
Well, it’s up to us now.
Are we going to put up with this shit...are we just going to lay down and take it...worse, are we going to reward it?
That’s what an electoral victory for Melissa Romano would be - an award, a sweeping-under-the-rug.
We’d be saying we don’t care about all the drugs your husband had, and the fact that you knew about his use but didn’t give a shit.
What a message for our kids.
