The Senate passed the $2 trillion stimulus bill on Wednesday night, and the House is expected to take it up on Friday.
The Fed already promised another $4 trillion in small business loans, many of which won’t need to be repaid.
So $6 trillion we’re throwing at a problem that we created, a problem that doesn’t even kill as many people as the flu.
$6 trillion. Seventeen years ago, that was the total amount of our national debt…$6 trillion.
Today we owe $23 trillion and now we’ll owe $25 trillion, probably more.
This is unsustainable, to have the grandkids of our grandkids pay off this debt.
But that’ll never happen. I think we have a global debt reset going on right now, or at least one for the rich and entitled in the U.S. (credit card debt won’t be forgiven, for instance).
If that doesn’t work, we’ll go to war.
It’ll take three weeks for people to get a direct deposit, and checks won’t arrive until May.
This money will go so quickly that Congress will begin talking about another $2 trillion stimulus a week or so after.
The smarter move would be to open up businesses and let people get back to work.
Here in Missoula, just six cases upended the lives of tens of thousands. We ruined our economy for years to come because of this.
6,000 people a year die from slipping in their bathtub, but we don’t shut the economy down over that.
But if six people in Missoula get the Chinese flu, then we destroy life as we know it.
Yesterday one of the four people that created this mess in Missoula complained that he might not get all the rent he’s owed for his four rental properties.
“Josh Slotnick, a Missoula County Commissioner who rents out four apartments that he and his wife own, is also trying to work with renters on a case-by-case basis. He pointed out that landlords have obligations to make too. “It doesn’t begin and end between the landlord and tenant. There’s almost always a bank involved and a mortgage involved,” he said. “So many landlords like myself depend on rent to make payments on a building.”’
Slotnick failed to mention that the federal government is going to bail people like him out, those with mortgages. Those that have to pay rent are at the whims of people like Slotnick, individuals who’ve already made it painfully clear that they don’t care about workers.
Observations
St. Corona is the patron saint of infectious epidemics. She was 16-years-old when the Romans killed her in Syria about 1,800 years ago. She was tied to two palm trees and torn apart as the trunks were released.
Germany is digging out the relics associated with her in the hopes that it’ll help heal the 35,000 cases there.
The presidential race has come to a complete and utter standstill.
In the 24 years that I’ve been following politics, I’ve never seen anything like this.
Currently Biden has the nomination all-but-locked-up. Biden gives a sense of peacefulness, and a return to the good ol’ days. People want that today.
I bought Plague Inc., Evolved this week. It’s a $15 computer game where the object is to kill off the entire global population with a pandemic.
So far I’ve been successful in killing everyone with a bacteria and a virus and now I’m working on a fungus. Gotta pass the self-quarantine time somehow, right?
Stocks and Stimulus
Stocks sunk to shit last week. I sold some, I bought a few more.
One was Jet Blue.
Was trading at $30 a couple months ago. I got some shares at $6.50. It’s already back up past $11.
The Wall Street casino. It’s fun, especially when you know certain industries are going to be bailed-out.
Most people don’t have money to invest, because they’re in debt. If they’re not in debt, chances are good they’re living paycheck-to-paycheck.
It’s a very small minority that invests. The smart people.
Smart not just because they have the money, but because they have no debt.
When I get my $1,200 stimulus check, I’m going to put most of it in the Wall Street casino.
Many will.
We don’t need the money - we saved. So now if the government is going to give me a bunch of taxpayer money for free, well...I’m gonna try and make more money off of it.
I don’t value that $1,200 - we rarely value what we get for free.
More and more parents and spouses are getting sick of one another.
My house ain’t any different.
We have it tough - a 1-year-old baby coupled with a soon-to-be 9-year-old.
We try to put the baby to sleep, and then the 9-year-old makes too much noise, the baby wakes up, and the whole 30-minute process has to start over.
To say nerves are frayed would be an understatement.
In Rwanda, they shot dead two men that wouldn’t abide by the quarantine. In the UAE they arrested 64 for violating quarantine.
Here in America, we’ve decided that quarantine is alright. No one cares that our First Amendment rights have been stolen from us.
They’ve been gone for over a week...rights that we had for 243 years.
