They want sexual predators to resign…and they don’t.
- If that predator is a member of the U.S. House…fine – get rid of him.
- But if he’s a member of the Senate…whoa there – just hold on one damn minute!
Hence we get the Franken/Conyers Democratic Double Standard.
Conyers – a 52-year veteran of the U.S. House – was pretty much forced to resign yesterday after fellow members of Congress – D’s and R’s – began calling for his head.
A big reason for this was that he paid $27,000 to a woman so she wouldn’t talk about his actions as a sexual predator.
Another big reason Conyers was out was that the U.S. House is currently 240 Republicans and 193 Democrats, with one vacant (Rep Murphy (R) of Pennsylvania, who retired on October 21).
So Dems are coming up short by 47 votes in that chamber. Losing Conyers ain’t gonna mean much. Sure, the seat will now be vacant for several months until Michigan can hold a special election…but so what? Dems don’t have the votes anyways.
Now let’s turn our attention to the U.S. Senate.
Here we have 52 Republicans, 46 Democrats, and 2 Independents, the latter of which usually votes with the Dems.
So pretty much 52 to 48, with Pence able to cast a tie-breaker vote for the GOP. That means the Dems need to peel-away 4 Republicans if they want to get their way on a bill.
That’s tough, and should they lose Franken it’d be even tougher – 5 Republicans would now be needed, as Franken’s seat would remain vacant until Minnesota could hold its special election months down the line, probably not until May or June.
And let's not forget that Roy Moore will get in next week from Alabama, giving the GOP yet one more vote.
Yep...the Democratic brand is so toxic in so many parts of the country that even if your GOP opponent is a wannabe-child-molester, the Dem still can't beat 'em.
Hence we get the Franken/Conyers Democratic Double Standard.
- It doesn’t matter that yet another woman has come forth accusing Franken of sexual impropriety.
- It doesn’t matter that this was a congressional aide.
- It doesn’t matter that this is the 6th woman to come forward in the past 20 days.
What matters is that things are closer in the Senate than in the House, so Democrats will turn a blind eye to Franken while excoriating Conyers.
The Conyers resignation has also “left confusion, anger, resentment and bewilderment inside the ranks of the Congressional Black Caucus,” Politico writes, and a big reason is because it’s “a group that Conyers helped found nearly four decades ago.”
So maybe it’s not really a Senate/House thing but a black/white thing. Makes sense – Dems are great at talking the talk, terrible at walking the walk. They’re high and mighty until you call them out. Then the double standards begin to show.
Pitiful.
- For Franken, they dredge-up an ethics investigation, one that no one knows much about and there’s no firm timeline for ending.
- For Conyers, there is no call for an investigation, just a quick rallying-around-him before throwing him under the bus.
Didn’t help that Conyers paid off his accuser, unlike Franken. And how about those pay-offs?
We know the Office of Compliance has paid-out $17 million since 1997 to cover-up 260 acts of sexual impropriety by congressman.
This all came about through the 1995 Congressional Accountability Act.
It’s funny…but we’re not hearing too much about bringing those 260 settlements to light. Considering that you paid for those settlements with your tax dollars, I feel you have a right to know.
Whether it’s UM staff decisions or congressional coverups that you pay for, however, the powers that be feel that you can’t handle the truth.
So they hem-and-haw, delay, dodge, coverup, and hope the time runs out on the clock so they can go home for winter recess.
The last thing Congress wants is to be held accountable, or for people to begin asking them questions.
At this point we know that Democrats are no longer the Party of women. While they will allow a woman to abort her unborn fetus, they won’t lift a finger when it comes to protecting women from the unwanted sexual advances of their bosses and coworkers.
Democrats in Congress make me sick, and that was long before these new revelations of sexual predators and covering up their misdeeds with your money or with outright lies.
Democratic ‘leadership’ will continue to champion Al Franken because they need him, but for those in the House, it’s ‘good luck.’
It’s a double standard, one that sends a terrible message to our kids, and one that makes an already-pathetic Democratic Party even more so.
We really didn’t think they could get much lower after the 2016 debacle, but then we saw them try to excuse that away, and now we see them covering-up for sexual predators.
Really makes you want to join the Party, eh?
Really makes you want to give them money, too…huh?
Really…it just makes me want to puke.
