It’s been a good week on Big Sky Words…mostly because we chose to follow the money.
We started with MT Dem finances, then turned our attention to Missoula before looking at both Tester and Williams.
It was the Missoula numbers that really resonated, however.
I put up the post on Tuesday. By Thursday night it had over 1,000 views and 100 likes on Facebook.
That’s really good for this site.
Usually I get 1 like on Facebook – my own. Sometimes I wonder if anyone is paying attention.
After this week, I know they are. And once again, it comes down to local issues.
There are a lot of people that are troubled by the direction Missoula is heading, especially when it comes to the budget and our debt and our taxes.
When the city spends over a month touting the lead-up to a $15 million bond that doesn’t even appear on the ballot until November, yet then spends $8 million in just 14 days…yeah, people are going to notice.
I’m just glad I started this website 5 years ago to highlight stuff like this. I’m glad I ran for City Council in 2017 to highlight it even more.
And I’m glad you’re paying attention.
I’ll try my best to give you more information about the City of Missoula’s finances as we head forward.
And don’t worry – there’ll be no charge to you. I actually like digging into this stuff each day. I feel privileged that I’m able to.
That said…there might not be a whole lot over the next two weeks, as my 7-year-old is out of the Y summer camps and I’ll be watching him each day.
During that time the wheels of government will continue to turn, and money will be wasted daily.
I’ll keep my eye on it, and let you know what’s going on.
Thanks for reading.
