Links started to float around on social media, links to articles that put forth a wild notion – the country isn’t ours.
Instead it belongs to 10 wealthy donors, perhaps 50 super PACs.
It sure as hell don’t belong to the common men and women that get up each day to head off for the work that keeps this country running.
Nope, instead it’ll be people like this:
That’s Tom Steyer and the Washington Post profiled him and 9 other rich folks just like him in an article called Meet the wealthy donors who are funneling millions into the 2016 elections.
- For the most part, these are rich white men.
- Most hail from New England, New York being the prime state.
- 5 of these rich folks are responsible for 14% of the super PAC money going to candidates.
So this is our American plutocracy, our government by the rich.
We’re told in the article that “super PACs have raised $607.7 million and have spent $452 million” just this year.
What’s more, 41% of that money comes from just 50 people.
For the most part the Super PACs represent the energy industry, Wall Street and healthcare. Besides those super PACs we have the “ghost corporations.”
Ghost corporations can't be tracked and the Washington Post says their “backers cannot be identified.” These include:
Let’s take that first one, Children of Israel LLC, which gave $250,000 to the GOP.
We know from a February report that the $250,000 from Children of Israel went to Ted Cruz.
They also gave $150,000 to Mike Huckabee before he dropped out.
On the Democratic side we have that $100,000 from New York’s TA Group Services Inc. that went to Hillary Clinton.
We always hear how back the Koch Brothers are, but Charles Koch’s name doesn’t even appear on the large donors list until the 28th entry.
Well before him on the list are names like Michael Bloomberg, George Soros, and our friend Tom Steyer.
When you look at the jobs these people have you see “hedge fund manager” listed eight times in the Top 15.
Is this who we want running our country?
I’m sorry, but when we have these rich white men giving millions of dollars to Hillary and Ted Cruz, do you really think they’re not running our country?
What happens when they call the White House, or Hillary/Ted’s private cell?
“Hey, Hillary, it’s Tom.”
“Tom, so good to hear from you again. How’s Kathy?”
“Fine, fine – she ended up taking that trip to Monte Carlo after all.”
“It’ll be good for her to get back to your honeymoon spot, Tom. Anyways, what can I do for you?”
“Well, Hill, the truth is that I’m having some problems with some rival hedge fund managers.”
“Tom, say no more. I’m calling up Larry in Treasury now. He’ll handle them like they were those doofus-twins at Harvard.”
So that’s how it’ll be…in my opinion.
What can we do about this?
What I’m going to do is vote for Bernie, that’s what. I’m going to tell others to vote for him. I’m going to tell them about the evils of Hillary.
Will they listen?
I don’t know, but each time I say these things my argument will become more persuasive.
We have to take this country back from the rich white men.
I hope this post is one small, very small way to start doing that.
