Oh, what a day!
Filing day. It’ll be a busy one. I might even put up another post today to discuss it.
As you know, filing for legislative and federal races ends at 5 PM.
If you want to run for one of these offices, you need to file paperwork with the Montana Secretary of State’s office.
Corey Stapleton, a Republican, is currently in charge of this office.
Democrats don’t like this, and continually chastise Stapleton.
Personally, I’ve never met the guy. Last time I was in a room with him was during the 2001 Legislature.
One of the things the Dem blogs do is attack Stapleton.
Constantly.
I don’t have much to say about him, but I do have a few things to say about his office.
I went up there on Friday afternoon to file for office, and right away I had a nice lady greet me.
After I told her I wanted to file for the legislature, I had a guy come out and talk with me.
He was also nice, and quite informative.
More than that, he did his job well.
For instance, I needed to know about the Green Party, and he came out and told me they were still working on signatures.
Later that afternoon, he gave me a call to give me a status update.
Then, on his day off – Saturday – he sent me an email giving me additional information.
I got another email from him on Sunday.
I was pretty impressed by this. As you know, when I try to call the Montana Democrats they actually disconnect their voicemail so they don’t have to talk to me.
But at the GOP-controlled SoS office, they treat me like a king.
I’m pretty impressed by that.
