I’ve worked for the past four nights in a row in a downtown Missoula bar. Didn’t get home until 3:30 this morning, then had to get up and get the kid to school.
It's about 9in the morning now. Boy, I’m tired and ready to catch up on some sleep.
But until then…let’s talk about a few things.
Local Options
I talked with over a hundred people this weekend. Most were from Montana; most were regular, working people.
That’s why I’m so opposed to a local option sales tax. Perhaps you know that Missoula’s mayor is once again clamoring for this.
We have a GOP-controlled legislature, however, so this won’t pass.
That’s good – most people coming to Missoula bars and restaurants are Montana people, from my experience.
Most of these people are left-leaning.
They like the idea of the government funding programs to help people, like our seniors and mentally ill and disabled.
They just don’t want to pay for it when they’re going out at the end of the night, trying to let loose a bit.
It’s kinda funny – both Montana Republican and Democratic voters all agree that they don’t want sales taxes.
I wish our politicians would realize this.
That Damn Syria
Well, we bombed ‘em.
And now we can move on.
I have no doubt that’s exactly what’ll happen – we’ll move on, as will the media. The recent chemical attack will be forgotten, just as the one last April was.
And this is good.
I don’t care about that country. I didn’t talk to anyone this weekend that even brought that country up.
The reason is simple – we don’t care. We have our own problems. Chief amongst these are paying the bills, saving for retirement, and making sure the kids are alright.
Syria in no way factors into this. It in no way factors into our daily lives.
Our country needs to get the hell out of there.
But let’s keep budgeting for that particular war. Let’s put all the money into an account, and then every six months, let’s divide it by 50 and give it to the states.
This country’s falling apart. Let’s fix it.
Trump & Comey
It’s pathetic, watching these two imbeciles go at each other.
What’s also pathetic is how the media eats it all up, and then vomits it back at us, 24/7.
But what’s especially pathetic is that we pay attention to it.
Last September, 69% of Americans said they wanted Trump to stop using Twitter. By October, that rose to 70% - the highest yet reported.
A week ago it was 67%.
This is one issue that cuts across Party lines – the fact that we all want this doofus-in-chief to stop sending out tweets.
We saw this clearly this weekend.
And one other thing – I wish the media would stop enabling him.
What if our anchors came on the air on a Monday and said they just aren’t going to report anything that the president says or does…for at least a week?
That’d sure piss him off, but who gives a shit?
Nothing Trump says or does has impacted my life at here in Missoula over the past two years.
In fact, my life hasn’t changed at all…aside from changes I’ve made, usually because I go out and decide to make more money.
Yep, the media and what they report doesn’t affect me.
If you turn off the TV for a week, you’d realize this is true for your life as well.
