Such is no longer the case.
It doesn’t help that the field of politics and news is filled with idiots these days. I guess it’s always been like that.
Mostly, it just doesn’t affect me.
I’m like most people - I have a regular job in the private sector, I pay taxes, and I don’t ask the government for anything.
So what happens in government doesn’t really matter to me.
And that’s the lens I use to look at our current ‘issues.’
That Idiot Sales
First of all, let’s mention Scott Sales and his idea to send $8 million of Montana taxpayer money out of state to be used to help build a border wall 2,000 miles to the south of us.
Boy, talk about stupid.
I began to wonder how a man could get so stupid, so I looked.
Seems Sales was born in Wyoming and went to school in Idaho. He graduated from Boise State University in 1982.
He worked for Hewlett-Packard and moved to Montana in 1990.
Maybe it was the schools in Idaho that made him an idiot, or his work with Hewlett. It could just be his upbringing, too. It really is hard to pinpoint, but I am saddened such an imbecile has any spot in legislative leadership.
Honestly, I don’t know why voters elect people like Sales.
Same as the Old Boss
Monica Lindeen is following the same tired ol’ Dem playbook that her predecessor did.
She’s filed a complaint against Corey Stapeleton because he used SoS letterhead to send out his gubernatorial bid announcement.
Who gives a fuck?
Well, foaming-at-the-mouth Democrats that think such a complaint will help them keep the governor’s seat after holding it for 16 years.
Let me tell you right now - after 16 years of one party in the top spot, Montana voters are going to go with the other party.
There’s not a Democrat in or outside Montana that can win that spot, and this should be obvious to anyone with any kind of political acumen.
I didn’t for one second think that Lindeen would do anything different than Keenan.
Lindeen - like Keenan before her - is using her position at the head of the Montana Democratic Party to enrich herself to the tune of $6,000 a month in pay while doing nothing to ensure Democrats can take back the legislature in the next few years, or win back any of the statewides they lost in 2016.
Democrats in Montana are a party bereft of both ideas and hope. Must be frustrating, but they want it this way, as their leadership picks make clear.
Free...but Helpful?
John Adams is back from his water quality job in Wisconsin to give us some more news.
Longtime political observers will know that it was Adams that first gave us the news that John Morrison was cheating on his wife, something that cost him his bid for U.S. Senate and gave us corporate Democrat Jon Tester.
Adams got a black eye for this for a time, but like most things in politics, once the losers are gone people forget.
So know 13 years later, Adams is popular with politicians again, and he’s covering the legislature via podcasts.
I think this is a terrible approach, one that probably won’t elicit much excitement. Printed word coverage would get more attention.
Despite that, he interviewed Dem Casey Schreiner this week and the podcast will come out in a few days.
On Twitter, Adams mentioned that if anyone had any questions, feel free to ask and he’d ask Schreiner.
So I asked why so many in legislative leadership are taking money from the gambling lobby to get elected.
I’ll be curious to see if Adams asks this question. I doubt he will.
And if he doesn’t...then what is he asking? It’ll be interesting to see how much Adams is holding their toes to the fire, or whether he’s playing sweetness and light now.
$20 Million for this Twit?
NBC is paying millions of dollars to get rid of Megyn Kelly.
The dummy was paid $20 million a year to give us her thoughts.
What qualifies someone to make that much to act as a talking head?
Well, Kelly went to school in New York and graduated from Syracuse University in 1992 with a degree in political science. A few years later she got a law degree. Then in 2003 she started as a general assignment reporter for some ABC affiliate in D.C.
At some point it was more about telling us her thoughts and opinions than telling us the news. Her pay shot up big time because of this.
But then she fell out of grace with Fox and then with NBC. She was paid $20 million a year by the latter and she’ll get an undisclosed sum so she’ll walk away.
We really do have a fucked up country when dumb talking heads like Kelly get paid millions a year to spew hate and vitriol, and people like school teachers have to hold down second jobs and have garage sales just to get by.
We really do have our priorities straight in America, don’t we?
The Border Wall Dispute
- Will it become ‘Trump’s folly’...something that derails his presidency and ensures he either won’t run again or won’t get elected?
- Will it become the ‘Dem disaster’...something that derails support for the Dems in 2020, or at least enough for them to take back Congress and/or the presidency?
- Or will it become just another circus sideshow that affects few and that few pay attention to?
Probably a little of all three, though I lean toward the latter.
We know that there’s about 2 million federal employees, with most (250,000) in California. 79% of federal workers actually work outside the District of Criminals.
So that’s 2 million people, and I’ll add in 2 million more to represent their family. I’ll add in another 5 million to represent the people in ancillary businesses that rely on those federal workers for their own income.
That gives us 9 million people, or what comes out to 2% of the country.
In other words, about 98% of the country isn’t affected by this government shutdown.
Wouldn’t know that from the way the media or Democrats are acting. Things like the truth and putting things in perspective don’t really matter, though.
And that’s it today, folks. Enjoy your weekend and start to your new week.
