There’s this whole 'if/then' idea about Greg Gianforte getting elected.
Here’s how James Conner put it earlier today:
“If Cooney loses, Republican Gianforte will replace 16 years of Democratic governors who vetoed hundreds of crackpot bills…”
Um...so what?
This is one of the weakest points in the Democratic armor - the ‘so what?’
If Greg Gianforte is elected...then what...the world comes crashing down? Because we already had that happen this year starting in March.
I honestly don’t think it’s going to be as bad as Democrats make it out to be.
I don’t think it’s going to be bad at all, actually. It’ll probably be good. But more than anything...it probably won’t affect you and I.
We work. We pay taxes. We take care of ourselves.
Why should us working stiffs be afraid?
And afraid of...what exactly?
I really don’t know...but I do know where I can get an idea - the Montana Post.
There’s 8 articles with Gianforte’s name in them since August 23 - three weeks ago. That’s more than two articles a week. Sure are scared, aren’t they? And they want you to be scared, too.
As far as I can surmise, Gianforte is bad because:
- He likes the idea of herd immunity
- He donates to Republicans running for the legislature
- He donates to Republicans running for the PSC
- He might cut taxes by 30%
- He doesn’t like abortion
- He doesn’t like to see the Post Office piss so much money away
My God - run for the hills!
And the “crackpot bills” that James Conner is so worried about? Don does a good write-up of what some of these might look like.
For working stiffs like you and I? It’s much ado about nothing. Whether those bills pass or fail...our lives will continue as usual.
That’s the weak points in the armor...the ‘so what?’
Because you know what? None of these things we’re supposed to be afraid of really matter. This year we’ve learned that in spades. We’ve learned what’s important and what’s not.
I look forward to a change in Helena after 16 years, and most Montanans feel the same. This will be reflected in the vote in November.
More than anything, it’ll be Trump’s coattails that carry Gianforte across the finish line, and most if not all of the GOP statewides as well.
There is a rabid, intense desire among the faithful Trump supporters to keep that man in office, and nothing is going to come along to change their minds. This is the Silent Majority that’s not reflected in polls, not seen on the back of car bumpers, and not talked about in the open.
But they’re out there, and they’re going to carry the GOP through.
