Governor Greg Gianforte has no idea what to do about Montana’s fentanyl crisis.
No idea whatsoever.
That was obvious earlier today when he hosted a “press conference in Gallatin County with officials and law enforcement,” according to local media.
Here’s his plan:
- Blame China
- Blame the Mexican cartels
- Blame Biden
That’s the gist of it.
Hell, Gianforte is beginning to sound an awful lot like a Democrat - just blame the guy in the White House.
That’s all Democrats did for the last presidency, and look what it got them - a terrible mess of a country that they have no idea how to fix, and whenever they try, they make it worse.
Seems that’s Gianforte’s plan with fentanyl in Montana - blame everyone else while doing nothing and watch the problem get worse.
And I’m completely serious here - that’s all he’s doing.
First he highlights his plan - along with ten other do-nothing governors - of “ten commonsense steps for the Biden administration to take to secure the border.”
Like that’s going to happen. Biden doesn’t know what planet he’s on and his handlers in the White House don’t want to do anything unless it’s related to the LGBT crowd.
In addition to that monumental plan from Gianforte and his ilk, our governor also joined the American Governors’ Border Strike Force.
The idea behind this 26-state initiative is to better coordinate communication for drug trafficking.
Now, I’ll bet you $10 right now that Gianforte’s ideas here will actually see fentanyl increase in Montana.
Because his ideas on how to fix the problem aren’t going to do anything.
And there’s absolutely nothing from him on lowering demand. Why aren’t we talking about the reasons why people are using these kinds of drugs to get high?
What’s missing from their life? Why do they feel so empty inside?
But we don’t ask those questions, and I’m not surprised - we never asked them when our state had a meth crisis years ago, either.
We’re afraid to ask those questions. What if they lead us to question our pointless struggle for material possessions at all costs, and how unhappy that makes us?
Instead of doing drugs, many are just quiet-quitting. That’s how meaningful the current life-work balance is for people. Much like the drug users, they know our society is bullshit. Why even take part?
The meth crisis never went away - it just turned into the fentanyl crisis.
34 people have already died from Fentanyl this year in Montana.
17 of those occurred in March on the Blackfeet Reservation, all within one week.
Indians typically have a 30% higher overdose death rate than whites. The main reason for this is that these communities have fewer dollar resources for treatment and even life-saving drugs like Narcan.
Of course, the larger reason is that we don’t care about Indians in the first place. Never have, never will.
Gianforte didn’t mention anything about helping Native Americans. I thought the GOP was trying to do more outreach on the reservations. I guess only in tough election years.
We lost 87 Montanans to fentanyl in 2021, and we could surpass that this year. It only takes one bad batch of pills to get loose, and users start dropping like flies.
In 2020 we had 41 deaths from the drug. The trend appears to double each year.
Around 103,000 people have died from drug overdoses in the US so far this year, and 70% of those were from fentanyl or other synthetic opioids.
Since 2017, fentanyl deaths in Montana are up 1,100%. It’s about the same nationally, though. About 200,000 have died from the drug since 2015.
We’ve already seized twice as much of this drug in the first half of this year than all of last year.
The problem is clearly getting a lot worse.
It was pretty similar when we had serious problems with meth 10 to 20 years ago or more, though much larger.
It was figured about 540,000 people were regularly using meth in 2013. In 2019, around 10 million were misusing opioids.
Now many of the opioid drugs are being laced with fentanyl and it’s killing us. It’s killing our young people. It’s killing our future.
Nationally, our leaders have no plans to do anything about this. Biden will continue to allow 200,000+ migrants come across our border illegally each month, many of whom are mules for the Mexican cartels, carrying the poison of fentanyl with them.
Nothing will be done to crack down on trade with China until they stop manufacturing this poison.
And nothing will come of Gianforte’s lame attempts to fix this problem by blaming Democrats.
Let’s hope he realizes that no one is going to help him. He wanted to be the boss, and now he is.
So put on your boss pants, Greg, and fix this fucking mess.
