A woman from Hawaii called in to Aaron Flint’s radio show the other morning.
She moved up here because she was tired of living in a state that had no liberty.
A day later I was listening to Peter Chrstian’s radio show here in Missoula. He told of a neighbor of his. Seems their kids - who’d been living in Seattle for the past 25 years - decided they’d had enough. They moved across the street from their parents.
We all know that more people are moving here...it’s just that we’re not sure exactly where they’re all from.
If we did know, we’d judge...and chances are good we’d be wrong.
Take that woman from Hawaii. Most would peg her for a liberal...but she’s actually conservative.
I’ve been seeing a lot more Washington license plates lately, but that family that moved here from Seattle was probably a bit more on the conservative side.
In my 3-plex apartment, we had some new people move in a week ago.
They have Minnesota license plates, and on the first day they moved in they put a ‘Black Lives Matter’ sign in their front window. It’s not one of those cardboard, homemade signs, either - they paid at least $20 for this one, probably more.
I don’t know what’s going to happen to this state; I don’t know what’s going to happen to this country.
Whatever it is, I don’t think it’ll be good.
Unemployment benefits ended a week ago. Congress has been unable to come up with any kind of plan since then.
Like professional athletes, they'd come up with something pretty damn quick if we stopped paying 'em.
But we're stupid.
Talk was $200 then $400, but it seems Dems are sticking to their $600 guns.
I personally think they should reduce the benefits to $0.
But then people might be forced to work and the economy might improve. Schools might even reopen, and sports could be played.
Alas, if that happens Trump could win. So we’ll keep restrictions in place, and likely make them more stringent.
After all, Trump could win if we don’t.
I just don’t think it’s in the stars, however. If Dems were serious about winning they’d get rid of that doddering old fool they call their nominee.
But then the people behind the scenes wouldn’t be able to call the shots. Their Wizard of Oz.
Who is that, do you think...the person that’s really in charge? We know it’s not Biden. And I can’t believe it’d be Jennifer O’Malley, his campaign manager and former Beto and Obama staffer.
Who do you think it is? You know that person will pick the VP. The VP isn’t going to have any power...the person that picked them will hold all the cards.
Who is that?
O’Malley got her start in South Dakota for Daschle.
God, I wished I lived in South Dakota. My son could go to school if that was the case.
I don’t think he will be going to school here in Missoula. We’re too left.
I suspect schools around the state will be canceled this fall, with the caveat that it’ll be for the first two weeks...which will stretch into a month, then two, and so on.
Remember in May when we got semi-excited that kids might be able to do one or two weeks to finish out the year?
God were we stupid...like we were stupid to believe the two-week lockdown, flatten the curve bullshit. Look where that got us.
Now it’s pretty much a given that the Griz won’t be playing football this fall.
I don’t know how many small businesses around town will close because of that, but I think it’ll be a lot. I would love to talk to you about my job and how business is, but you know people write letters to my boss trying to get me fired, so I won’t.
Boy I like writing this stuff!
If I get 5 different comments on this post, I’ll write another post.
You and I both know that won’t happen. So this is it.
I think I’ve had a pretty good run, from March 2013 to now.
- I’m tired of the negativity.
- I also don’t want to be a target when the shooting starts.
- And I’d like to keep my job.
The Griz have been cancelled and schools will be soon, too. The second wave of lockdowns will begin in 3 to 8 weeks. What we went through from March to May is going to seem like a walk in the park compared to what’s coming.
No, I'm not talking about the virus. I'm talking about our reaction to it.
I think politics is damaging our health more than this virus. I think social media is killing us. I think the corporate media is a poison.
I think Trump is heading toward a near-landslide victory, and chances are good he’ll get both houses of Congress. In Montana, I think it’ll be a red route. Cooney and Bullock will give us more masks and more shutdowns. No one wants that. People are moving here to get away from that.
Politics, social media and the corporate media are going to make people increasingly desperate the closer we get to election day.
Turn them off, tune them out. Your health depends on it.
A month ago I would have said the nation’s does as well, but this country is lost.
