We call them ‘Dreamers’ – young people that were brought here illegally as children by their illegal alien parents.
Now many are teens or young adults and they want Congress to pass DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) so that they can continue to work and go to school here.
Some Democrats are even threatening to vote against the upcoming spending bill to keep the government open if DACA isn’t included in it.
One of those is Bernie Sanders.
Gosh…I wish Dems would make as much fuss over CHIP, the Children’s Health Insurance Program. My kid is on it, the same as 20,000 other Montana kids and 9 million kids around the country.
Just 1.9 million were eligible for DACA in 2016.
I’m really not surprised by the Democrats’ stance on this – we know that they focus on minorities, not majorities.
We even see this locally here in Missoula, where the city does everything it can to accommodate foreign refugees while the homeless shelter if full and there’s a sprawling homeless camp under one of our major bridges. Sometimes our homeless people even die out in the cold.
In the case of DACA vs. CHIP, Democrats are much more eager to help out 2 million people as opposed to 9 million.
But that’s not quite accurate. If we help out those 9 million kids we’ll also be helping out the 18 million parents that take care of them.
I bet many of those parents vote…unlike the 4 million DACA parents who can’t vote because – surprise, surprise! – they’re here illegally.
A big problem for Dems is that many of those CHIP parents – God forbid! – might vote Republican.
So it’s focusing on DACA, to hell with CHIP.
Again, this isn’t quite accurate, as Dems do want to see CHIP funded…it’s just that the higher priority at the moment is getting DACA through…even higher than keeping the government open via a new spending bill.
Thankfully we have Republicans in the U.S. House that are looking out for hardworking families like mine and millions of others.
Yep, today it was reported that the House version of the spending bill will have $3 billion in funding for CHIP.
Sadly, Democrats may try to block this by not voting for it. The reason? It gets back to the same reason they voted against CHIP in October – they opposed “funding offsets that include charging wealthy seniors higher Medicare premiums and taking from an Obamacare disease prevention fund.”
Yep…Dems are the one standing in the way. For all their talk about hating the rich and wealthy, they will side with those wealthy seniors instead of poor kids.
I think you can see quite clearly why Democrats are the minority Party nationally, in most states, and in most municipalities.
