“Greetings, 2021 candidates for Missoula mayor. I am reaching out today because I am helping to moderate the City Club forum on August 9, and I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an advance idea of what to expect, and a little extra time to prepare for our “starter” questions.
On the day of the debate, beginning at 11:20 or so, I plan to take about 5 minutes to introduce the candidates and go over the ground rules. I would appreciate if you could please provide in advance a general introductory statement about yourself for me to read at the forum…”
An hour later I received this email:
“Hello - thanks to the unpredictability of the Delta variant and a great deal of conflicting information, we've opted to err on the side of caution and hold the City Club Missoula mayoral candidates forum via Zoom rather than in person.
I know it's a disappointment and inconvenience; it was not an easy decision. Still, I very much look forward to your participation in the event.
More info on the run of show will be forthcoming, so stay tuned.”
This effectively ends my campaign. I was counting on that in-person debate...and now it’s gone.
I’m very frustrated and disappointed by this.
But we’re lucky.
So far, no businesses have been forced to close, and the schools are still going to open in four weeks.
Still, like the debate...that could all change.
Be safe out there. Things are changing fast.
