This is a fun book and I had a lot of fun writing it.
It’s the 6th book in the Mountain Man Series, and the final book with legendary Montana mountain man John Colter.
The book is $4.99 and you can get it on Amazon, iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and other retailers.
I really liked this one for several reasons, one of which was the characters.
Here, take a look at some of the new Indian characters in the book:
Those are Iroquois, various tribes that made up a confederacy of like-minded Indians in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.
In my book they’re helping the British. The British are in the far western reaches of Canada, trying to foment war with America.
They’re doing that by hurling their allied tribes against the Americans’ allied tribes.
Caught in the middle are our fur trappers.
As you know if you’ve been reading the series, our fur trappers were stranded up on the Three Forks of the Missouri in the last book.
Here, take a look at this map to get an idea of where Fort Three Forks is:
That comes from a 1979 book by David Wisart and you can see more maps like it in my post 10 More Great Mountain Man Fur Trapping Books.
As you know from my last historical note, I combined Fort Three Forks with Fort Henry…mainly for literary purposes of length.
That compacted a couple years into one and for the series altogether we went from August 1806 to January 1810.
Here are those books:
I’m so happy to have completed my goal of finishing a series of novels about John Colter.
I really gave him a good sendoff, one that’s historically accurate.
You’ll like it, I know.
So…what’s next?
The Mountain Man Series is still going strong, and I’m halfway through the 7th book.
It’s called “Fortin’s Furs” and we’ll have many familiar characters.
We’ll have lots of new characters too, like Wilson Price Hunt and the men he’s trying to lead overland to Astoria for the Pacific Fur Company.
That sets up the next three volumes of this series, a tight trilogy that’ll give you our nation’s history in a fun and exciting way.
I hope you’re along for the ride, and it’ll be quite the thrilling ride at that!
Hop on with the first book in the series, Colter’s Winter.
You won’t be disappointed.
