Special Note: This is the 1,100th post on this blog.
I’m expecting a lawsuit in the mail today or tomorrow.
That’s what Pete Talbot, disgruntled writer over at MT Post, told me two days ago shortly after 8 PM:
“You might want to review the basics on libel, slander and defamation before posting “a likely-drunk Pete Talbot.” Your attorney can fill you in after the lawsuit is filed tomorrow. You’re toast, Strandberg.”
My, oh my.
I think Papa Pete has finally lost it.
I suspect it was the Tuesday Trump rallies that did it. I bet Pete was upset with how those rallies went.
Not a lot of people showed up...mainly because the Democrats didn’t tell anyone about these rallies before they happened.
The reason for that?
Simple - the Dems knew that more Trump supporters would show up if they did that, making them look bad.
Now Pete wants to make me look bad, with his lawsuit.
Like I said, I’m expecting that summons or claim or whatever in the mail today or tomorrow, as Pete promised me he’d be filing that yesterday, and if they sent me the info in the mail, it should arrive soon.
This is the 5th time I’ve been threatened with a lawsuit since I started this site nearly seven years ago.
Interestingly, most of the times these threats came about because of what I was writing on my Writing Blog.
One that comes to mind was a woman in Europe that got really pissed that I was writing about a book promotion site called Book Sends.
This used to be an American company that promoted books for authors, but then this woman in Europe somehow got the domain name and made a new site. She wanted anyone linking to the old site to take down those links.
When I said ‘no,’ she threatened to sue me.
I told her she could do whatever she wanted, and I’d go ahead and act when I got that lawsuit in the mail.
That lawsuit never came.
Another one happened when I was writing a book or report or website content for some guy in New York.
He got pissed off that it wasn’t exactly what he wanted, and then began demanding I return the partial payment he’d already given me.
I said ‘no,’ and that we’d just end the project right there.
He got all pissed and said he’d be suing me tomorrow. I got kind of nervous and was checking the mailbox for a week or so, expecting a lawsuit.
That lawsuit never came.
I wonder if Pete’s lawsuit will come.
I doubt it.
I don’t think he has much of a case.
- Most everyone in the state knows this is an opinion website, not a news site. Most of the time I’m just talking about what’s in the news.
- Pete Talbot is a public figure, having “served on local and statewide Democratic Party boards,” and he’s “also been blogging at various sites for over a decade.”
- We know Pete drinks. “He enjoys bourbon.”
- A few weeks ago, Pete came into my bar and sat down right in front of me while I was working and had two stiff drinks while talking politics with his friend. I watched him miss a few steps as he headed toward the door. That was around 10 PM.
- He was drinking that night around the same time he made his ‘questionable’ comment on RD a few weeks ago.
- Using the word “likely” denotes a statement of opinion, not fact.
And let’s say Pete is in a spiteful mood and goes through with his lawsuit - what kind of floodgates is this going to open?
For instance, would I be able to sue Pete for calling me a “stupid fuck” in 2016...would I be able to sue Don for calling me anti-Semitic that same year?
A better question might be…’Why would I want to?’
- I don’t have thin skin.
- I don’t care what others say and think about me.
- I’m not a baby.
You can’t say the same about Democrats these days.
They’re afraid.
That’s what it boils down to - fear.
Democrats are letting fear guide them, here in Montana and at the national level. They’re deathly afraid they’re going to lose.
So afraid are they of losing, that I think losing is a foregone conclusion.
With impeachment yesterday, I think Dems have a good chance of losing the House. I sure hope all the members of the squad are voted out, like AOC and the Somali woman that hates America.
We’ll see what happens. It’s a long time until the election, and many things could crop up that throw a wrench Trump’s way. You just don’t know.
I don’t know if I’ll be getting Pete’s lawsuit today or tomorrow or sometime next week, maybe even in early-January.
We do know that when I receive it, I’ll be “toast.”
My, quite the threat. Perhaps I should contact the Missoula Police Department over this threat.
After all, I list my address on my website. How do I know that an unhinged, possibly-drinking-his-bourbon-late-at-night Pete Talbot isn’t sitting in his car outside my apartment, waiting for me to come out so he can ambush me, perhaps with a gun?
Trump supporters have been attacked physically by unhinged Democrats before.
After all, it is possible, and could happen.
But I’m not a pussy.
I’m not afraid of Pete Talbot.
A lawsuit is going to make me toast? Give me a break!
At most it’ll cost me a few hundred or even a few thousand dollars and waste some of my time...if it’s even filed. Yeah, that'll really end my life, now won't it?
As usual, Democrats' greatest skill is making us laugh.
My bet is that Pete Talbot will continue to remain an embittered, angry, petulant, bourbon-drinking old man that more and more people choose to ignore as he loses what few marbles he has left.
