What if I told you there was a way to stay within your genre, but to get on an entirely new list? And what if I said those with perma-free books should be trying this strategy at least once during 2015?

What I found out was that it can really change how your book is getting visibility on Amazon. Let’s explore, starting with this ranking and these categories for my book The Jongurian Mission:
As you can see, the book is #6,621 and that gives it a ranking in its Top 100 genre categories. That means it’s #16 for Fantasy – Arthurian and #35 for Fantasy – Historical.
Those are good categories, and they’re where I want my book at. So…why change horses in midstream?

Because I feel that the people continually checking that Top 100 list are getting bored seeing me there, and I want to move myself off for a month and get myself in front of some new eyes. So I switch to the kids and teens categories by changing a few things on my Amazon publishing page with categories and keywords.
After I made the change I was still in my old categories, but I did add a new one based on one of my new keywords.

It took awhile, but I got thrown into some new rankings, which had me at #17 in Fantasy & Magic – Coming of Age.
After a few weeks now, I’m at about the exact same ranking. So really, I haven’t changed in daily downloads for this perma-free book, but I have increased my exposure, and gotten the book into new hands. Will new reviews come? I hope so…this book needs some!
