And it was a pretty good showing, too, with 12 doors knocked on where I talked to voters and 26 doors where I just dropped off a flyer.
After dropping Jenny and Paul off at the YMCA I headed back home and grabbed my “Cross streets maps.” These are the streets that run long, and which I skipped when I was doing Walking Maps #1 and #2 last week.
They primarily consist of Eaton and Schilling Streets, both of which I know pretty well, going back all the way to 2001 when I first lived around here for 2 years.
I did all of my houses on the Schilling list and was coming to walk home to do Eaton. Well, the houses I needed were in the wrong direction, so I just decided to do a literature drop.
This pretty much consists of me putting a flyer on a door, in a fence gate, or on the porch if there’s nothing else. None of these houses are on my list, so they could be anyone, including republicans. In other words, it could be a complete waste.
Still, I know my voters. People in a lot of these places move a lot, so there could be some young voters in an apartment or something that just aren’t on my lists.
I was pretty sure of that from the amount of pot smoke I smelled when I got up to some doors. One house right on South really smelled like it, and another house did as well.
I got an address wrong and knocked on a house that really smelled of pot. The guy opened and I gave him my flyer, then moved next door to the right house. There was an old woman there, and her two miniature dogs chased me back to the fence.
Oh well, the state needs to legalize pot and take the tax money.
All in all it was a pretty good night and I’m glad I got out there.
