But that didn’t stop the Adams supporters from coming out of the woodwork, as they should. There’s nothing worse than a fucking coronation for Democrats, and that’s exactly what the Curtis show was turning into.
My stomach turned yesterday when I visited the Missoulian around 9 PM and saw the story on Curtis supporters going after Adams supporters. I saw a story on The Flathead Memo telling Curtis to stop the attacks.
Shit…that’s not good. I was pretty excited about Curtis, but honestly, my excitement went from about the stratosphere to that little area behind the dumpster where all the broken glass collects. Yeah, I’d totally lost interest and it seemed that this woman was damn good at pandering to get what she wanted.
Is that a bad thing? No, it’s what you need to do in politics, oh, not all the time but a lot of the time. Does that mean it leaves a good taste in your mouth? Not necessarily.

I’m sorry, but does anyone really think a few reporters typing in 140 characters every 30 seconds is live coverage? For some of those who grew up listening to the Brooklyn Dodgers on the radio then it might be. But for the overwhelming majority of Curtis supporters? The Dodgers are in L.A. you fucking idiot!
There’s a serious disconnect in the party between the Old Guard and the rising poles. You saw this over the past week as candidates jockeyed for position, rallied their supporters, and came out swinging. Some dropped out early – like Keenan who was never really in and Wanzenried who had a good chance but, well…that generations' time is finished.
That’s what this nominating convention really comes down to – selecting a new group of Democrats to lead the state forward as the Old Guard heads off to the home.
Sure, maybe a lot of party leaders are only in their 50s, but they see the pains of taking care of their own aging parents and they know they’ve only got a decade or two before their kids start doing the same. That’s going to be the story of Montana over the next decade – young people caring for old people. Right now it’s just old people caring for old people.
I’m not sure the problems of the state are discussed at these shindigs, however. No, I suppose it’s just a round of glad-handing, brown-nosing, and slapping each other on the ass, ala-NFL players. Substantive policy debates or talk on where the party is going or what the state’s goals should be in the future? Not so much.
This is political theatre, after all, and what’s good for Montana doesn’t really come into it.
I’m sure Amanda Curtis will be a great candidate, and a good Senator, one that doesn’t suck the cock of corporate America like Daines, but I’m just not sure that’s good enough long-term. Right now the party has no direction and no clear idea of what it wants to do in the future.
Just look at Bullocks’ fucking Mainstreet to Montana program and see how far that’s gone – these guys don’t know what they’re doing.
It’s simple, work with Republicans. Find the good ones and make sure they win and work with them to get more money into more hands in this state. Make jobs that aren’t poor and don’t require state or federal subsidies and get that environment cleaned up. Get away from resource extraction – that’s in our past. But most of all, be honest and tell people they’re stupid when it’s justified and good when you’re able. Say “I don’t know” more often and don’t pretend to have all the answers – you don’t. God doesn’t have all the fucking answers as far as I’m concerned.
So go forth and put your foot in your mouth and talk straight and attack the hell out of the corporate-greed-loving Daines every chance you get.
