You see, the 2015 Montana Legislative Committee assignments were supposed to be released yesterday.
Oh, don’t get mad and don’t get excited – and certainly don’t expect someone to be held accountable for not delivering what they promised when they said they would – it’s state government.
Well shit, it’s not even that, really – it’s regular people dictating what state government does. And to top it off, they’re not real regular…they’re Republicans, many of them far-out there and a bit gone if you will, and that can lead to all kinds of ‘interesting’ occurrences.
Needless to say, what’s been done is done, and this cat is out of the bag. Lo and behold, there be committee assignments:
- Bruce Tutvedt is the Chair of Taxation, which is interesting because he just got that censure. Fred Thomas is the co-chair, which tells me he’s the one keeping him in line. This should be an interesting daily soap opera for anyone interested in watching such.
- The Local Government Committee is controlled by hard-line Republicans, Janna Taylor and Ed Buttrey. But wait, is Lassie a hard-liner? I’ve mentioned my doubt before, and I think he can be worked with. It’ll be interesting to see if ‘ol ‘pearl necklace paid for at taxpayer expense’ will be enough to keep the hardline GOP agenda in line. Who the hell are they electing up there in District 11? Sheesh!
- It’s clear to me that Natural Resources is controlled by moderate Republicans, like Vincent, Ripley’s Believe it Or Not, and Mr. Mustache himself, Duane Ankney (he should have a larger say in the GOP!). Anyways, this is a committee that will have something to tell their constituents about come next cycle, which already started, remember? (Ha, of course you don’t, what the hell am I thinking? Obviously I’m not.)
- Energy and Telecommunications is another spot to shout accomplishments from, mainly because moderates have a lot of pull there. I have no idea who Roger Webb is, so someone might want to pick that up and check. I dunno, I’ll take this one if no one wants it because it’s a goin' against the odds, and I think it’ll pay off big.
What else we got? I don’t know, I hear the refrigerator opening, so I gotta go. Keep your eye on Ethics, though – something smells funny to me.
