We know this because the story broke nearly two weeks ago and he’s still there. So that begs the question…what political scandals would make him drop out?
You’re always reading about politicians getting in trouble, and oftentimes they’ll drop out in 24 hours or less. Not the case with Walsh, for plagiarism, sorry…stealing, isn’t really that bad.
Let’s take a look at some things that are considered worthy of dropping out of a political race…the ultimate sins a political candidate can make.
Smoking Pot
Do you think Walsh would still be in this race a week later, or even 24 hours later? I’m willing to bet even a politician in Colorado or Washington might be forced to drop out over something like that.
But stealing someone else’s ideas and passing them off as your own…well, that’s perfectly alright. That’s what we teach my son…that stealing is alright but smoking pot will put you in league with the devil.
Once again, I have to look at America and shake my head.
Sexual Harassment
Well, it happens – a politician running in a national race slaps a woman’s ass and says something like ‘hey toots, top this off.’ Worse, it’s on camera or has been recorded on someone’s phone.
That guy would be gone in 24 hours, or at least by Monday if it happened on Saturday night. Or am I wrong on that?
Drunk Driving
Hell, it’s August…it’s hot…and Congress is on recess – nothing’s going on and the press ain’t payin’ attention!
So we get a politician driving home drunk and maybe if they’re lucky they just get pulled over and taken to the station. In that case they get run through the press ringer and, gosh, that’s tough to survive. I’m thinking that guy’s got about 2 to 3 days and then they have to drop out.
If they’re unlucky they killed someone and then that’s the end of the story right there, and maybe for whichever governor was doing so much for DUI prevention as well.
Illegal Campaign Contributions
Challenging Corporate Handlers
You see this a lot when a politician says something against a corporation, one funding both parties equally. They might take a hit in that funding and they’ll see their poll numbers go down as a result. Remember, their opponent is getting the exact same amount of money still, so their propaganda continues unabated. A loss in the polls results and the corporate-controlled media begins writing editorials shouting doomsday. It’s over…they have to drop out.
When you challenge those holding the purse strings it’s almost guaranteed you’ll drop out, usually because you faded into obscurity. Again, stealing ideas and pawning them off as your own isn’t as bad as challenging corruption in America, so Walsh can stay in the race.
Well, those are just a few of the things that would have done Walsh in, but he’s a pretty straight-laced guy. Well, I get that impression. I imagine someone like former Treasure Secretary Ben Bernake, who thought a good time was going home on Saturday night and reading the Reader’s Digest.
That’s Walsh, and for better or worse, I’m feeling we’re stuck with him until January. Well, he could always “fuck up” and do one of the things listed above. Any Democratic shindigs coming up soon?
