Thanks for mentioning our post about cover photos! It's something that often slips people's minds, but it's important, even if you only update it once a year, to ensure it's not being counter-productive by being outdated. Each time social networks make a change to their layout, you should check your cover photo to ensure it's still effective. Otherwise, you look like a ghost, or worse, an amateur, on social media.

I think the worst right now is the egg logo on Twitter. On Google+, I usually don't have people in my circles if they don't have an image of themselves. A dog or place or cartoon...sorry, it just doesn't do it for me. I mean, I just feel those folks aren't really serious about what they're doing, and that's fine, it just tells me at a glance that I don't need to follow them.
