You’ll have to excuse me if I sound bleak – I’m in Helena and writing past 9 PM, a time when most bureaucrats here have had their batteries taken out for the evening, if not the rest of the weekend.
Ah, the town of your youth, nothing like going back. Maybe while I’m here I should poke around and see if Don Pogreba is still alive and kicking, for his website sure isn’t.
But besides that – and the general shutdown-nature of Helena at 9:30 on a Saturday night – I figure it’d be good to discuss politics. There’s not much on Twitter and many are probably passed out from the big game days. But I’m not, so let’s get into it.
Who the Hell?
Both Jim Rice and Mike Wheat have the advantage over their opponents, the article said. The main problem for these two is that 60% of the respondents – or 246 people – really didn’t know who they were going to vote for.
Don’t be fooled – those respondents had no idea who the candidates are. The list they were read went right over their head. So it’s good Mike Wheat’s getting ads out.
Jim Rice? Who the hell’s that?
Obamacare in Montana
Oil Wars
Something tells me that would have dropped the number down to around 37% or less.
Eliminating the Right to Vote
No, you can have an ID and you can have a piece of mail with your name on it, but if you don’t go down on Friday and…yeah, I know – fucked up, huh?
Pot in Montana
I wonder if the question was phrased differently if the response would be different: ‘Do you favor spending $35,000 a year on every person in prison for pot, or a similar amount for those just on probation?’
Something tells me those numbers would be reversed, but gosh darn, then maybe Republicans couldn’t keep propping-up the for-profit prisons in the state. (we know if you can’t stay in business yourself you just have to vote Republican, shout about it to anyone that’ll listen, and they’ll bail your ass out real quick.)
The U.S. House & Senate
Shit, I guess my blog articles aren’t swaying voters. I guess I can stop and start earning money again.
On the other hand, 20% of those polled said they still didn’t know who the hell they were voting for when it came to the Senate. So…this really tells us close to nothing.
I wonder what the campaigns are doing today, or were doing today. Lewis has a debate tomorrow, right? And Curtis has one on Monday. I hope they took my advice and kept a low-profile and did a lot of debate prep.
I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Until then, happy Sunday.
